Prof. Suresh Bada Math

Dr. Suresh Bada Math is a Professor of Psychiatry at NIMHANS, Bengaluru, India, and a nationally recognized academic psychiatrist, mental health educator, forensic psychiatry expert, and mental health policy contributor. His work bridges psychiatry, mental health law, ethics, telemedicine, and public mental health education.

He completed his MBBS from the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, followed by an MD and DNB in Psychiatry from NIMHANS. Driven by a deep interest in the intersection of mental health, human behavior, ethics, and justice, he pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics and a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Rights and Law from the National Law School of India University. He subsequently completed his PhD in Law with a focus on Mental Health Legislation.

Dr. Suresh Bada Math has contributed extensively to academic psychiatry, mental health systems, and public policy in India. He has authored more than 479 scientific publications in indexed journals, edited 19 academic books, and has an h-index of 54 with an i10-index exceeding 277. His academic and policy work has focused on forensic psychiatry, telepsychiatry, mental health legislation, ethics in psychiatry, suicide prevention, psychotherapy, and digital mental healthcare.

As an educator and public mental health advocate, he is committed to making psychiatry and mental health knowledge accessible to students, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the public. Through his educational platform and YouTube channel, @sureshbadamath, he has created more than 675 educational videos on psychiatry, mental health, psychotherapy, ethics, and law, benefiting learners across India and beyond. His broader mission is to promote rights-based, evidence-informed, and technology-enabled mental healthcare while strengthening the dialogue between mental health, society, law, and public policy.
